Seeing and controlling electricity Yello Sparzähler online customers can view their consumption on iGoogle.

Yello customers who use Yello’s smart electricity meter called “Sparzähler online” can now view their individual electricity consumption levels on iGoogle anytime and anywhere in the world – with the Google PowerMeter. This has been made possible through a joint undertaking by Google and Yello Strom (a wholly-owned subsidiary of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG).

The Google PowerMeter is a gadget that Sparzähler customers can choose to add to their personal iGoogle homepage. That way they can always keep an eye on their electricity consumption, just as they do with the weather or the news. One advantage this service offers is that customers always know if there is an unusual amount of electricity being used, whether too high or too low, which is exactly what their "daily forecast" lets them know in their password-protected accounts. Sparzähler customers who are interested can sign up for the Google PowerMeter with iGoogle. Current and past consumption data is displayed in fifteen-minute intervals as well as consumption comparisons, provided that the customer has authorized that summaries of consumption information can be shared with Google.

Yello has been offering the smart electricity meter, the Yello Sparzähler online, nationwide since 2008. It enables customers to see the electricity consumption levels in their homes with real-time accuracy. The Google PowerMeter is an additional service. "We are now offering our customers even more ways to maintain an overview of their electricity consumption levels with the help of the internet," says Yello Executive Director Martin Vesper. "That creates a new sort of energy awareness, because when people know exactly what is going on with their energy usage, they can use energy efficiently without sacrificing convenience."

Google's innovative search technologies connect millions of people across the entire world every day. The company was founded in 1998. Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, graduates of Stanford University, made Google into one of the most significant companies on the web in every market operating around the globe. In addition to its headquarters in California's Silicon Valley, Google is represented across all of North America, Europe and Asia with its network of branch offices. With over 1.4 million customers, Yello is now among the ten largest German electricity companies. Yello has been breaking up the monopoly in the metering and measuring technology with its Sparzähler since 2008.
